Documentary Films
Films can change attitudes and inspire. Films can make a difference. We develop and produce original documentary films that explore issues in depth about our world.
We work with scientists, non-profits, conservation groups, and environmentalists to share their stories from an independent perspective. We have travelled around the world filming and photographing science expeditions, conservation issues and current affairs topics in over 30 countries. Some films we produce ourselves, others are commissioned by foundations, museums and science centers.
We are experts in documenting wildlife, remote field production and post-production. We produce an orginal series of films entitled Whale Trackers exploring the science of whale, dolphins and porpoises around the world.
Our most recent films have been featured at film festivals, universities and international conservation-based conferences. All of our documentaries are online and have tailored educational materials that can be used by students and teachers.
Recent Documentaries
“Whales of the Mediterranean Sea” is a 5-part program exploring cetaceans and the conservation issues they face in the region. The series of films were featured at the 2009 International Conference on Marine Mammal Protected Areas in Hawaii and at the 2008 IUCN World Conservation Congress in Barcelona, Spain. This and other films have been featured at 2008 EcoFilm Festival in Rhodos, Greece, the 2008 Onotoa Festival in New Zealand and 2007 Wildlife Asia in Singapore. In 2007, our film Southern Right Whales of Argentina was cited by the International Wildlife Film Festival in Montana for its outstanding cinematography capturing whale behavior.
Our most recent program is an hour-long documentary about extinction. In October 2008, Chris Johnson of earthOCEAN travelled to mexico to begin production on The Search for the Desert Porpoise, a quest to film the Vaquita porpoise - the most endangered marine mammal in the world. The program was nominated for the ACE/Silverdocs Awards at the 2008 Discovery Channel/Silverdocs Film Festival in Silver Spring Maryland. As production continues in 2009, stay tuned to updates on its progress in the blog Expedition Vaquita.
